Why it's worth it: Crisp navy cotton — the breathable classic that looks as smart on the 7am train as it does on a long-haul flight. It's Le Petit Dormeur: the patented, award-winning 3-in-1 travel pillow made in France — designed to stop the forward head-nod rather than just fill the gap beside your neck.
- Three positions, one pillow — supports your head against the window, forward on the tray table, or upright in your seat
- Stops the head-nod — proper support where your head actually falls, not a U-shaped ring around your neck
- 200 g, rolls into its own pouch — packs into a tote or carry-on; the cover comes off and machine washes
- OEKO-TEX certified cotton — breathable, temperature-regulating and kind to skin
- Made in France, hand-assembled — memory foam from the RENUVA mattress-recycling programme; hand-assembled in workshops that employ people with disabilities

Why U-shaped pillows don't work — and this does
A U-shaped neck pillow holds your neck and lets your head fall forward anyway. Le Petit Dormeur is built for the three ways people actually sleep in a seat: leaning into the window, folded forward onto the tray table, or sitting upright. Its modular 3-in-1 design adapts to each one and cradles your head and neck, so you arrive without the stiffness. It's just as useful for shaking off jet lag once you're home — see our jet lag guide for how to use it during the first few nights back.
Light to carry, soft to sleep on
At 200 g it weighs less than most paperbacks. It rolls up tightly, secures with its built-in elastic band and slides into the travel pouch that comes with it — packed, it's 15 cm across and 10 cm high. Wrapped in OEKO-TEX certified cotton, it's breathable and regulates temperature — right for stuffy cabins and summer trains. The certification means the fabric has been independently tested for harmful substances. The cover comes off and machine washes cold, and the high-resilience memory foam holds its shape trip after trip.
Made in France, from recycled foam
Le Petit Dormeur is designed and made in France. Its memory foam is made from 100% recycled materials through the RENUVA programme, which turns end-of-life mattresses into new foam, and every pillow is hand-assembled in workshops that provide work for people with disabilities. The design won a bronze medal at the Concours Lépine, France's long-running inventors' competition, and Maison Pont is its official UK stockist.

Questions
How is it different from a U-shaped neck pillow?
A U-shape sits around your neck and still lets your head drop forward. This one supports the head itself, in whichever of the three positions you're sleeping — window, tray table or upright — so the head-nod doesn't happen.
Can I wash it?
Yes — the cover comes off and goes in the machine, cold or at 30°C at most with a minimum spin. Dry it flat; no tumble dryer, no iron. It dries quickly.
How small does it pack?
Rolled and secured with its elastic band it's 15 cm across and 10 cm high — small enough for a tote or the front pocket of a carry-on. Open, it's 62 × 21 × 3 cm.
Is it only for flights?
It's built for flights, but it works the same way on trains, coaches and long car journeys — anywhere you're sleeping sitting up.
Is the foam really recycled?
Yes. It's made through RENUVA, a programme that recycles end-of-life mattresses into new foam.

I discovered Le Petit Dormeur on Instagram. I gave in and bought the Kyoto model for a flight at the end of August - I'm off to settle my son in Kyoto, Japan, so a lovely coincidence! Try it and you'll be hooked. This product is excellent! I even use it to read on the loungers in my garden. Let's support our French makers. Truly, thank you - I love it, and another order is going in this weekend!
I'm delighted with it - exactly what I was hoping for. It took a little getting used to at first, but after a few days I genuinely felt an improvement in my neck.
I was very pleasantly surprised by how well it supports the neck. I'll finally be able to sleep properly on the plane. I also use it for naps in my armchair. Very happy with my purchase.
I haven't used it on a trip yet, only tried it when it arrived. It holds the neck well and is very pleasant against the skin. The fact that it can be rolled up and stored in its pouch is a real plus.
Very good product with quality materials and finish. The head is well supported. Ideal for long trips by plane, or even by car.
Very good but with big potential to improve. A few ideas: two suction cups to stop the cushion swaying; the earphones sometimes get in the way (tricky to solve, but perhaps a small recess for them); a little tab to remove the suction cup as it's fiddly and noisy; an inflation system underneath to adapt to the surface, e.g. when you're wedged between a window and a frame it isn't that comfortable and it moves. Plenty of other ideas too - a good cushion, but lots that could be refined. Happy to be contacted if useful.
On the 14-hour outbound flight I found it uncomfortable - Le Petit Dormeur rides up too high around the chin when you tighten it. On the way back I tried again and tightened it less, so it sat lower around the chin and was far more comfortable - and this time I slept without my mouth falling open :) and with no neck pain.
After a first experience I'd found disappointing, I take back my words: with use I've got used to the shape of this product, which I now find comfortable and, above all, soft to the touch and of very good quality.
Parcel arrived quickly. A bit disappointed with the product as it sits slightly too high for my neck.
Unfortunately I don't really have much of a neck, so it ends up more like ear muffs for me. I'm going to return it.
Very good neck support — sleep is much easier on planes and in cars (the suction cup is a really good idea), it even stops snoring in the 'neck-brace' position. It just lacks a little comfort around the jaw.
